Car Insurance Volkswagen (Car Insurance). How can I get the other driver's insurance co. to pay the full cost of rental car?

How can I get the other driver's insurance co. to pay the full cost of rental car? I was hit from behind and the other driver's insurance company has accepted liability but, they only want to reimburse me about $27/day for a rental car when I'll have to pay around $50/day. They are also dictating to me some terms about the duration of the rental car period based on the number of shop hours estimated for repair. I am wondering if there is some leverage I can use to make them pay 100% of the rental car cost for a reasonable car and duration.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. The other insurance company is only obligated to place you in a vehicle, not necessarily of the same size or features of your own vehicle. The only time they'll pay more for a rental is if you are in an area (Alaska, for example) where you can't get one for cheaper. As for the duration, the terms are flexible. You are entitled to pick up the rental once the parts are ordered and ready and the vehicle goes to the shop, and the rental is due once the repairs are completed. If your repairs take longer than anticipated, they'll continue to pay. You do not "have to pay around $50/day", because there are rental cars available for less than that. If you chose to rent one that costs "around $50/day", instead of one that costs less, then you have to pay the difference yourself. They only have to pay the full cost of a rental car, not necessarily the one you want.

Volkswagen . How long would it take for someone to teach me how to shift gears on a motorcycle if I already drive a scooter?

How long would it take for someone to teach me how to shift gears on a motorcycle if I already drive a scooter? My 250cc scooter is obviously an automatic. I can ride it just fine, in the city or on the freeway. However, I've never ridden a motorcycle. (I have owned stick-shift cars though.) I want to buy a motorcycle, but it's gonna be hard to test drive it (and ride it home) if I can't shift it! So, if I post an ad (on craigslist, for example) to hire someone to give me a lesson on how to shift a motorcycle (using their motorcycle), how long of a lesson would it need to be, and what would a fair price be? Thanks! car insurance.

Volkswagen . How to Replace Jeep Cherokee Ball Joints

Changing the ball joints on your Jeep Cherokee can be a big job, but if you have the right tools and a little patience, you can do it at home. The ball joints support the outer knuckle, so if they are loose do not wait to change them. Failure of the joint can cause catastrophic failure that could lead to the wheel coming off the Jeep. You will need a ball joint separator and a ball joint press as the Jeep ball joints are a press fit, but if you don't have these in your tool kit you can rent them from many different auto parts stores.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Lug wrench
Jack
Jack stands
Socket set
Wrench set
Dead blow hammer
12-point socket set
Needle-nose pliers
Ball joint separator
Ball joint press
Torque wrench
Anti-seize compound

Step by Step :
1
Break the lug nuts loose on the front tires of your Jeep. Raise the front end of the Jeep off the ground with a jack and support it with jack stands.
2
Remove the lug nuts and remove the front tires. Locate the bolts on the back side of the brake calipers and remove them.
3
Remove the brake caliper from the hub and set it aside. Support it either with wire or string so that it is not hanging on the rubber hose.
4
Remove the brake rotor by pulling it straight off the wheel studs. Locate the three 12-point bolts on the rear of the hub and remove them. Do not use any thing other than a 12-point socket on these bolts or you may strip the heads.
5
Pull the hub assembly and axle out of the knuckle. If the hub has never been removed, you may need to use a chisel to separate the hub from the knuckle.
6
Locate the upper and lower ball joints. You will see a cotter pin at the base of both of the ball joints that needs to be removed using a set of needle-nose pliers. Discard the cotter pin as you will use a new one with the new ball joints.
7
Remove the nuts on the base of each ball joint using a large socket and ratchet. You may need a breaker bar to break these loose if they are corroded or have never been removed.
8
Separate the the ball joints from the knuckle by inserting a ball joint separator or pickle fork in between the knuckle and the ball joint and striking it with a dead blow hammer. The knuckle will likely pop off the ball joint very unexpectedly so be aware as you drive the separator in.
9
Set the outer knuckle aside after you get it off the ball joints. You will need to use a ball joint press to remove the ball joint from the inner knuckle as it is a press fit.

Step by Step :
10
Position the ball joint press so that you are pressing the old upper joint up to remove and down to remove the lower joint. The press will come with many different size adapters so you will need to select the one that you need for your ball joints. Follow the directions in the kit to sort this out.

Step by Step :
11
Clean in and around the holes with a wire brush before installing the new joints. Press the new joints in using the press again but this time press the top one down and the bottom one up until they are fully seated in the knuckle.

Step by Step :
12
Slide the outer knuckle onto the new ball joints and install the nuts that came with them. You will need to torque the top castle nut to 75 foot-pounds and the lower to 80 foot-pounds. Install the new cotter pins and secure them by bending the ends around the nut.

Step by Step :
13
Reinstall the axle and hub into the knuckle and replace the three 12-point bolts, torquing them to 75 foot-pounds with your torque wrench. Add a little anti-seize compound the knuckle where the hub installs to make it easier to remove in the future.

Step by Step :
14
Reinstall the brake rotor and caliper onto the knuckle and tighten the two bolts holding the caliper. Reinstall the wheel and move to the other side of the Jeep. Repeat this process on the opposite side to complete the job.

Step by Step :
15
Jack the Jeep up and remove the jack stands. Lower the Jeep to the ground and test drive it to verify everything is working as it should be.
Tips & Warnings
Be careful when reinstalling the axle so that you don't damage the splines or the seal in the axle tube.

When working with the Jeep off the ground, make sure that you support it properly. Be sure you are on flat, even ground so that the Jeep cannot move or fall from the stands while you are under it.

Volkswagen . How to Replace the Ball Joints on a Mercury Sable

Worn ball joints on a Mercury Sable have several indicators. They cause a shaking in the steering wheel when encountering rough road surface, severe wear on the front tires and a knocking noise over bumps in the road. They are used on the lower control arm to secure the spindle to the arm and allow the spindle to turn or swivel. An extremely worn ball joint can obviously cause a catastrophic incident where it separates and causes a total loss of control of the vehicle.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Jack stands
½-inch drive air gun
Set of ½-inch drive sockets
3/8-inch drive ratchet
Set of 3/8-inch drive sockets
Ball joint separator tool
Hammer
Set of wrenches
Snap ring pliers
Ball joint installer kit
Grease gun

Step by Step :
1
Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the wheel using the ½-inch drive air gun and the appropriate socket. Remove the lower ball joint nut using a wrench.
2
Separate the ball joint from the spindle using the ball joint separator. It looks like a big fork with just two teeth. Place the remover in between the lower part of the spindle and the lower control arm. Strike it hard with the hammer and the ball joint will pop out of its tapered hole in the spindle. On a strut type of front suspension, it is safe to remove the lower ball joint without supporting the arm because there is no spring tension on the arm. Once the ball joint is loose, push the lower arm down and with the other hand swing the spindle off of the ball joint and let the spindle sit to the side of the lower arm.
3
Remove the snap ring from the ball joint on the top-side of the control arm using the snap ring pliers. Place the floor jack under the lower control arm as close to the ball joint as possible without interfering with its removal. Strike the ball joint stud with one good blow with a hammer and the ball joint will come out downward.
4
Install the lower ball joint using the ball joint installer kit. Use a cylinder that fits the bottom of the ball joint and a larger one on top to act as a receiver. Place the two end caps on top of the cylinders and install the c-clamp over both of them. It is a bit of a juggling game but if the bottom is installed first with one hand, the c-clamp will hold it in place while the top cylinder is installed. Tighten the c-clamp by hand and it will hold all in place. Make sure that the ball joint is going in dead straight. If it tries to go in cockeyed it will be difficult to straighten.
5
Install the snap ring on the top side of the ball joint using the snap ring pliers. Push down on the lower control arm with one hand and place the spindle over the ball joint with the other. Let go of the lower arm and push the ball joint stud back into the lower hole in the spindle. Install the nut on the ball joint and tighten.
6
Grease the ball joint with the grease gun. Install the tire and let the vehicle down.

Replacing \lour Thermostat If your vehicle has been overheating or doesn't warm up properly, and none of the things in the preceding section is the problem, you may need to replace your thermostat. This little gizmo simply stays closed and keeps the liquid in the engine block until the engine heats up. Although a simple device, it can malfunction. If the thermostat sticks in the open position, it doesn't keep the liquid in the engine long enough, and you have trouble getting your car warmed up. If the

thermostat sticks shut, the liquid isn't allowed to get to the radiator, and overheating results. Because replacing the thermostat is quite simple and thermostats are quite inexpensive, you may want to try this task before you take more drastic measures: 1. Locate your thermostat, if you haven't already done so. Most thermostats are located where the top radiator hose joins the engine, so these steps deal with this type. If your thermostat is in the bottom radiator hose, the principle is the same. 2. Get a new one. Supply the usual information (vehicle make, model, year, and so on) to the auto supply store. If you've done other work on your vehicle, you should be an old hand by now. 3. Unscrew the clamp that holds the end of the radiator hose where your thermostat is located. !?
